On may 17, the lexington planning board approved plans

for a 1-megawatt solar farm that abuts ward 3 homes.

While some conditions were placed on the developer, this solar farm is being built irresponsibly. Solar is almost always a good thing. But building a solar farm of this size close to Waltham homes is irresponsible and dangerous. The developer plans to deliver high voltage current through Waltham to the grid, not through Lexington. Due to its close proximity to the Cambridge reservoir, no fire suppression system or fire retardant panels can be used. Waltham Neighbors For Safe Solar was formed and I became an active member in this grass-roots neighborbood organization. We had no active representation for Ward 3 on the city council. If elected, I will be informed, vocal and aggressive when it comes to protecting our property and neighborhoods.

ABUTTER NOTICE

While the Lexington Planning Board did allow Waltham residents to provide feedack, a neighborhood organization was formed to actively advocate for protecting property rights and look out for our safety. This was a gap in Ward 3 representation.

FIRE RISK

This solar farm is being built WITHOUT fire suppression systems. It is close to the Cambridge Reservoir and the solar panels will not have fire-retardant materials. Solar fires can't be extinguished with water. If there is a fire, 18 EPA-listed toxic chemicals will be released in the air and ground.

TREE REMOVAL

Acres of land will be clear-cut for the solar farm. Directly abutting Waltham homes, public drinking water and conservation land. This is not the area to build a large solar farm. Solar farms should not be built in residential areas.
